First Email From Zac!

I know Zac intends to send emails specifically for this blog but I thought I would share the first email we received from him this morning:

Hey guys! What a long crazy day yesterday was. I got to Lima and went through customs and everything and didn't find anybody to pick me up, so I waited for about an hour before i saw a group of missionaries that i met up with and then it was ok. We drove to the mtc on a big bus of about 40 missionaries. We saw a good amount of the city on the way there. It's really poor and there's graffiti everywhere. I saw a couple of wild dogs. Then I got to the mtc and got all my info, got my companion, Elder Hinman from Bellevue, Washington. He's a nice guy. There are five people in my room, me and my companion and then a tricompanionship. I like all the guys. I only got three hours of sleep last night because we got in so late but I'm feeling good. I only have six minutes so i cant send any pictures yet but i will next thursday i think. Also the plugs here are 220 volts and there is a sign that says not to use it unless we have a transformer? It says if we try to just use an adapter it will harm our electronics. So not sure what to do about that. Also I just met presidente gonzales a few minutes ago and he seems nice. Ok I have to go now!

Love,

Elder Farnsworth

I will copy and send any comments made on this page to Zac in our weekly communication with him so feel free to send any messages you want through this blog.

Best Ways to Communicate With Zac:

Pouch
The Church provides a system to send letters and postcards to missionaries that are in areas with less-than-trustworthy mailing systems.  This is the easiest and safest way to get mail to Zac. The Church uses a bulk mail system to gather mail together for a weekly delivery. On average, Zac should receive your mail within about 2 weeks.  Sometimes it could take a little longer, depending on where he is at the time.

Send to:
Elder Zachary Farnsworth
PERU TRUJILLO MISSION
P.O.Box 30150
Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0150

Post cards have no special instructions.  Just mail your post card to the address above and it will be delivered to Zac in Peru.  Letters must be on a single sheet, folded into three-panels, and taped at the top only. No envelopes may be sent through the pouch (see image below).

Dear Elder Service

Dear Elder is a service that sends Zac letters free of charge. Basically it uses the pouch system above but saves you the trouble of mailing the letter.  Plus, you don’t have to buy a stamp.

Go to dearelder.com.  Click “Pouch” in the sidebar on the left under “Send Stuff.”  In the Drop Down Menu, locate the “Peru Trujillo” Mission. Click “Write a Missionary.” Enter your return address information, as well as Elder Zachary Farnsworth in the correct fields.  Type your letter in the space block and click send. That’s it! Letters are printed and delivered to the mission office weekly. Cut off is Sunday night at midnight for that week’s batch of letters. Letters are generally in Peru by the next week, but have to be hand-delivered to missionaries away from the mission office.

Zac will be in the Peru MTC (Missionary Training Center) for the next six weeks so if you want to write a letter to him there you can choose Peru MTC in the drop down menu.  Just switch over to Trujillo 3 weeks from now in order to be sure he gets your letter.

This blog is for all my Stanford peeps. As you all know I'll be in Trujillo, Peru for the next two years serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I leave on July 15, and should be home pretty much exactly two years from that date. This will be my first and only post to this blog. My Mom will be updating it with pictures and letters I send home, so expect some weird formatting as she tries to operate a blog without her technological lifeline (jk Mom you're gonna do great haha). It'll probably be updated every week, so be sure to check it! If you want to send me any mail, my address is
